The movie centers around Alex, a teenage drug addict who, after a bad LSD trip with her boyfriend Preston, is sent to rehab by her mother, Joanna (Patti LuPone). Under the guidance of counselor Leslie (Jenna Elfman), Alex confronts her addiction and achieves sobriety. However, the temptation to revert to her former partying lifestyle is strong, and she struggles to maintain her sobriety, reconnecting with Preston shortly after being released from rehabilitation.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when Alex becomes the prime suspect in Preston's death after a wild party. She then faces the challenge of clearing her name while navigating the aftermath of her addiction and the accusation of murder.

Critical reception

  • Variety noted that the movie features a strong performance by Kellie Martin as a teen addict, but the second half loses focus, and the murder subplot undermines the overall message about youth drug addiction.
  • IMDb users have expressed mixed opinions, with some praising Kellie Martin's performance while others criticize the casting of some roles. Some users found the depiction of drug use realistic and the ending satisfying, while others felt the murder element was unnecessary and detracted from the film's core theme.
