The mission: A CIA operative named Crawford (Glenn), stationed in Brussels, is ordered by his superior (Atherton) to go to Bucharest and smuggle out his former mentor, Higbe (Loggia), who had defected to the Soviet Union years earlier.
A change of orders: Once Crawford gets Higbe out of Bucharest and into Venice, he learns that his superiors no longer want the mentor brought back but want him killed instead.
The conflict: Crawford must decide whether to follow his new orders or help his old friend and mentor, who is dying and possesses sensitive information.
