The story begins with David as a young child and his father, matinee idol Jack Cassidy, telling young David that he divorced his mother and has taken a new wife, Shirley Jones. A '60s musical montage moves the story forward to David moving to Los Angeles to break into acting. His father, Jack, is not very encouraging! Next, David auditions for the Partridge Family and the rest is teen-idol history!
