The Terry Fox Story (TV 1983) is a Canadian-American biographical drama film based on the true story of Terry Fox, a Canadian athlete and amputee who embarked on a cross-Canada run, dubbed the "Marathon of Hope," to raise money for cancer research.

  • Plot: The film chronicles Terry Fox's journey after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 18 and having his leg amputated. Inspired by his experiences in a cancer ward, Terry Fox begins a cross-country run in April 1980 to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He is accompanied by his friend Doug Alward and later joined by Bill Vigars, a public relations officer from the Canadian Cancer Society. The film showcases the challenges and triumphs of his marathon, which garnered national support, but was tragically cut short when his cancer returned, spreading to his lungs, forcing him to stop running in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He died in June 1981 at the age of 22.
