"Life of the Party: The Story of Beatrice" is a 1982 TV movie starring Carol Burnett and Lloyd Bridges. It tells the story of Beatrice O'Reilly (played by Carol Burnett), a woman who struggled with shyness and low self-esteem, which led to her becoming an alcoholic.

The movie follows Beatrice's journey as her husband Johnny (Lloyd Bridges) initially enables her drinking but later realizes she has a serious problem. Her friend Rita (Marian Mercer) convinces her to seek help through Alcoholics Anonymous. The movie depicts Beatrice's struggles with recovery and her eventual decision to help other alcoholic women. She establishes a recovery home for women called "Friendship House". The film also highlights the challenges she faces, including dealing with resistant individuals in the program, the loss of a boarder, and a legal challenge from neighbors regarding her recovery house.

While the character Beatrice O'Reilly is fictionalized for the movie, the story is based on the real-life experience of Beatrice Grey Jorgenson, a co-founder and executive director of a recovery center for women called Friendly House in Los Angeles. Ken and Mitzie Welch, who were friends of Beatrice Jorgenson and writers for Carol Burnett, wrote the teleplay for the movie and introduced Burnett to the real Beatrice.

Carol Burnett's performance in "Life of the Party: The Story of Beatrice" is highly praised, with some reviewers considering it one of her best dramatic roles. Lloyd Bridges also contributes to the film's success.

This dramatization of the life of the founder of the first alcoholic recovery house for women in Los Angeles provided Carol Burnett with another dramatic tour-de-force as the gregarious, hard-drinking Beatrice O'Reilly, whose life is turned around by Alcoholics Anonymous. Mitzie Welch, Burnett's longtime writer, along with husband Ken (who co-produced this film with Mitzie), did the teleplay.
